Being a parent of a child with different needs is isolating on a good day, and in Covid, with the loss of all sense of community support and meaningful social connection, we are just doing our best to get by on most days.
I have teamed up with Nicole McCurdy from Freedom To Feel and Horseguided Healing in Langley to host this day on her farm. The beautiful barn and horses create the perfectly relaxing space for us to enjoy a deeply nourishing and enriching experience.
The day will involve some gentle movement and breathing to help ground us, some deep guided relaxation and rest, community building with other parents who ‘gets it’, and some restoration time with the horses, individual reading, journaling or sleeping if that’s what you need. 😊
I will briefly share some tools to help us carry some of the most useful self-care strategies on at home as well. Hopefully we can come out of this day, feeling somewhat refreshed and nourished, but also with some new friends to connect with afterwards in a more personal and meaningful way than in the big ASD facebook groups.
The cost for the day is determined on a self-guided scale. You pay what you can from a minimum of $60 to a maximum of $150. You know your own situation best and can practice discretion here.
The day will take place on Sunday the 18th of April 2021 from 10:00 – 17:00. If childcare is an issue for you, we may be able to offer some assistance so please contact me in order for us to explore this further.
As for Covid restrictions: The Barn is run like a yoga studio where people do non-strenuous exercise. We will practice physical distancing inside the barn, wear masks, and ensure sufficient ventilation and spend as much time as possible outside in the open spaces. We will ask you to bring your own equipment – yoga mats, pillows, blankets, journals and pens as well as packed lunches to avoid sharing and touching the same things. We will limit numbers as well so physical distancing can be guaranteed.
I will provide more information to those who may be interested in joining us for the day. I am really excited about it and am hoping we can make it a more regular event!
Feel free to share this info with anyone whom you think may be interested. I know that now might not yet be the right time for all of us to be together, but I hope to have these days more regularly through the summer and certainly in the future when the restrictions ease more.
Please get in touch with questions or comments and to book your spot!
